PeaceTrees Vietnam was founded
in 1995 to renew relationships
with the people of Vietnam
and promote a safe, healthy future
for its children. Our work focuses
on Quang Tri Province, an area heavily
impacted by the legacy of war.
Over the last thirty years,
nearly 10,800 people in the
province have been killed or
maimed by landmines and
unexploded ordnance.
In one out of every five cases,
the victim is a child. |

Mine Risk Education |
|
In 1998 PeaceTrees
Vietnam opened the Danaan Parry Landmine Education Center.
Situated in the park we cleared of unexploded bombs and
reforested, the center provides much needed services to the
children of Vietnam
The center serves
the two fold purpose. First it is a visitors center complete
with displays and interactive "games" to educate interested
individuals about the landmine and bomb issue in Vietnam.
Secondly, the center is a training center for Vietnam volunteers
who will return to their own communities to teach mines
awareness. This is the only Landmine Education Center in
Vietnam. |

PeaceTrees
Friendship Village |
| |
On September
19th, in cooperation and friendship with the Dong Ha Town
People's Committee, the PeaceTrees Friendship Village was
officially dedicated, on the site of the former US Marine Combat
Base, in the town of Dong Ha. This land, once a fiery
battleground, has been safely cleared of 289 pieces of
unexploded ordnance (UXO) and landmines and will provide homes
and a fresh start, including micro-credit loans, for 100
families whose lives have been shaped by the aftermath of war.

Micro Credit Lending |
|
Fifty women gathered in Cam Nghia commune, Cam Lo
District, in June 2002 to each receive approximately $170 USD in
micro-credit loans, thereby launching a revolving micro-credit
lending program sponsored by PeaceTrees Vietnam and the Quang
Tri Province Women's Union. |
