Supporting opportunity for economically disadvantaged families impacted by explosive ordnance
PeaceTrees Vietnam’s Friendship Village is located on a 20-acre section of the former Đông Hà Combat Base in Quảng Trị Province. Built in 2002, the village includes the Friendship Village Kindergarten, a community hall, sports fields, and 100 homes with running water for economically disadvantaged families who have been impacted by explosive ordnance (EO). About 650 people live there today.
In addition to providing a safe place to live with many learning and community opportunities that would not otherwise be available, the Friendship Village provides a physical space where it is possible for war veterans from both sides to foster new relationships and memories. Through tree-planting and citizen diplomacy trips to the Friendship Village, Vietnamese and American citizens gain opportunities to share in peace building and friendship.
